When it comes to modern wonders, the internet can be a real grab bag of possibilities, from superfluous fluff to up-to-the-minute current events. The spectrum gets even more drastic when you consider the emotions that can be triggered by this non-stop barrage of information, and there are times when it pays to just take a moment and only seek out the things that the internet offers that can lift your spirits and (if only for a few minutes) make you happy. Luckily for those of us in need of break from the bleakness of the world, Cracked offered such respite for an entire week.
Dubbing their endeavor “Happiness Week,” Cracked offered videos and articles that focused on things that made their content creators happy, with such entries as “22 Quotes To Get You Through Tough Times” to the video “5 Pop Culture Moments of Unbridled Joy” (a favorite of mine). This concerted effort of professional funny people doing their best to expose readers to the positive things that can be found in the swirling chaos of the interwebs results in a finely curated reminder of “hey, it’s not all bad. Lookit this video of a dog and a chimp hanging out.” That sentence isn’t just a summary of things we all want more of in our lives, it’s now in my top ten list of things I might get tattooed on my body.
This menagerie of super great things lets us know that, while the internet can broadcast some of the worst humanity has to offer, it also has the goodness of the world just underneath its surface. The good news, the charming surprises, and the genuine happiness-inducing lols are out there, and Cracked brought us a week of it. And if they can give us a week, chances are we can find even more.
This brings me to one of my all-time favorite topics: Me and how great I am. Or more specifically, this website (of which I am a part, and therefor is great.) We have received the occasional email from listeners that our efforts of making crazy-talk into microphones has helped some of you through genuinely difficult times, and I know I speak for everyone at Fandible when I say that we are overjoyed that we can an upside to an otherwise rough day, week or longer. This (and our insatiable lust for ultimate power) helps us keep going, because if you’re happy the we’re happy.
So what about you? What is out there in the teeming madness of the internet that puts a smile on your face? Let us know in the comments!
